Safaris are the most in demand activity break
We are often called a nation of animal lovers and new research by Activity and Adventure Holidays seems to back up the theory.
They found that safari and wildlife breaks are the most popular type of activity holiday for UK travellers.
10 per cent of visitors to a number of travel shows revealed that they were keen on taking a safari holiday, with Africa and South Africa among the most popular destinations.
Both safaris and wildlife holidays have moved on a lot in recent years, with so much more on offer than the previously traditional jeep safari, including walking breaks, flying safaris and photographic tours.
The other popular activity breaks included Sightseeing & Museums, which came second with nine per cent and hiking, trekking and walking with eight per cent while whale & dolphin watching, cycling and cruises came joint fourth with five cent of the vote.
Ntsiki Mpulo, Marketing and Communications Manager (UK) for the South African Tourism Board, said: “Wildlife & safari holidays are increasingly popular because they offer travellers the opportunity to, not only step out of their everyday lives, but also to experience nature in a truly unique way.”
