A guide to the many active attractions in Jersey

Wednesday, 16 November 2011 5:00 PM

If you are considering taking an adventure holiday, why not book a stay in Jersey? As the largest of the Channel Islands, the destination is bursting at the seams with thrilling activities for you to try that will certainly get your heart racing.

Chances are you will have already consulted Jersey brochures ahead of your trip and you may have been left astounded by the sheer volume of activities on offer.

If you are planning to travel with your family, one of the most unusual and exciting options is that of aerial trekking. Armed with a helmet and harness and with an instructor helping you along, you will make your way across a rope course set high above the ground in the treetops.

To really test your nerve, there is a Powerfan freefall jump, where you can leap from a height of 12 metres into the pit below.

Another activity that is suitable for all ages is Blo-karting or X-sailing. For this, you are strapped into a special buggy that you can then steer down the beach - and on windy days you may find you are propelled at speeds of up to 90 kph.

If nothing pleases you more than having your adrenalin levels pushed to the maximum, how about having a go at abseiling? With this activity, it's not the speed that will get your heart racing but the distance to the ground!

Experienced abseiling enthusiasts are sure to love trying out their favourite pastime in Jersey, as there are some amazing places to do it - with views including those of the sea and even France.

Of course, as an island, many of Jersey's activities are based on the water. One of the most hair-raising options is to hire a jetski to take out around the coast. These machines can reach high speeds and, as you rip up the surf and feel the spray of the sea hit your face, you may have never felt so alive.

Waterskiing, kite surfing and wakeboarding are other great activities that you may have few chances to try when you are at home but will have ample opportunity to enjoy while in Jersey.

Surfing is another hugely popular option and you can book lessons if you are a beginner, or take to the waves on your own board if you're a pro. You can also have a go at windsurfing while you are on the island, before taking a couple of hours off to lie back on the sand and soak up the sun.

However, to get the biggest adrenalin hit, you will need to head for the skies. You can book flying options during your stay on the island, but for something a little more extreme, why not try skydiving?

Your plane will fly you up to a distance of 10,000 ft, from where you will leap out and enter a freefall. Don't worry though - you'll be armed with a parachute and the second part of your journey to the ground will be a lot more relaxed than the first.

The list of activities doesn't end there though - you can experience everything from taking a yacht or speedboat out for the day, to having a quiet walk or bicycle ride out in the countryside.

With so many other thrilling activities to enjoy when you visit Jersey, why not start planning your holiday today?
