Top places for thrillseekers in America

When you think of North America, do vast shopping malls, busy sandy beaches and Route 66 all pop into your head? While all these play a part in the popularity of the destination, the country is also a fantastic place for thrillseeking adventurers!

For some of the most memorable activity holidays you will ever have, you should definitely head to the States. From white-water rafting to jungle tours and snow trekking, America has every adrenaline-inducing activity you can think of.

With the US home to 50 states, it is easy to find a destination that offers the thrillseeking opportunities you are looking for. One of the most popular available is Grand Canyon rafting trips.

The Grand Canyon is in the state of Arizona, close to Nevada and Utah, and home to the gushing Colorado River. It is almost 280 miles in length and therefore provides ample opportunity to grab an oar and get on board a raft for an exciting-but-nerve wrecking chance to navigate the waterway.

Your trip will include the chance to tackle grade four white-water rapids, as well as being able to swim in side canyons.

Of course, you will also enjoy calmly drifting along the river, soaking up the stunning Grand Canyon National Park. It is separated by the river into North and South Rims, each one noticeably different from the other.

The South Rim is more popular than the North with visitors and you might be able to spot wildlife like golden eagles, hawks, great blue herons and falcons, as well as coyotes, different types of cacti and wild flowers.

Yucatan holidays are also fantastic if you are looking for a break packed with thrills. Yucatan is one of the states of Mexico and its capital is Merida, which you will get the chance to explore.

Packed with plazas and museums, you can relax in the city, soaking up its culture and history before gearing up for some bigger adventures as your trip progresses. Take in the Uxmal ruins and discover the coastal walled city of Campeche, before exploring the jungle ruins of Palenque.

Here, you can enjoy an amazing jungle tour - make sure you keep your eyes peeled for the large variety of animal and plant life that call the greenery home. Next, you will head to the Hidden Worlds Cenotes Park for some snorkelling beneath the jungle where you can discover the corners of underground caverns.

Make sure you leave some energy for the coastal ruins of Tulum in Playa del Carmen, where you can book a scuba diving lesson and then relax on one of the stretches of stunningly white sand.

Another fantastic place that adventurers in the USA should travel to is Alaska. The vast, snowy land feels like another world compared to the barren deserts of Nevada and the sunny beaches of Mexico.

Just some of the many activities you can enjoy in this state include camping in the wilderness, ice climbing, canoeing, a guided glacier walk and mountain biking.

Anchorage is in the southern-central part of Alaska and here you can take part in some of these activities, while enjoying the breathtaking views of crystal-clear lakes, dazzling blue glaciers and energetic rivers.

Finally, Canada is well worth a break too and is known for its plethora of outdoors attractions and active lifestyle.

Alberta and British Colombia are perhaps the two main destinations that thrillseekers should head to; particularly because it is here you can discover the Rockies.

Where else in the world can you be trekking on a glacier one minute and then soaking in hot springs the next? A scenic glacier flight is a trip you might like to book if you do not feel like tackling the ice yourself.

Camping in Canada is one of the best ways you can feel at one with the nature and terrain, before getting up in the morning for a jam-packed day of adventure.

If you have pushed your adrenaline to the max, you will have the opportunity to take it down a tempo and go on relaxing strolls through lush vegetation against a jaw-dropping mountain backdrop.

So, if you are looking for the next destination for an adventure holiday, make sure you head to one of the many locations in America that are perfect for thrillseekers.
