Experience wildlife on a Canadian adventure holiday
Looking to go on the adventure break of a lifetime? Be sure to consider holidays to Canada. By taking a tour of the North American country, you will be able to explore stunning landscapes and come across amazing wildlife in what is sure to be an experience you will never forget.
As the second-largest country in the world, it is unsurprising that Canada offers plenty of opportunity for fans of the great outdoors to take part in wonderful activities. However, there is perhaps nothing more thrilling than seeing some of the varied creatures that live in its numerous national parks.
There are more than 40 such parks in the country, so by taking small group adventure holidays, you will be able to visit several of these protected areas and catch glimpse of a wonderful wealth of wildlife.
Perhaps one of the best places to visit on Canadian Rockies tours is the Yoho National Park.
You can be certain of having an awesome time here; indeed, the park is named after a Cree word expressing awe. Situated on the western slopes of the Rocky Mountains, this park spans some 507 square miles so there will be plenty of opportunity to escape the hustle and bustle of the rat race and enjoy the natural wilderness.
Among the numerous animals to call the park their home are moose, coyotes and wolves, although it is perhaps the chance of seeing bears roaming through the forest that may really capture your interest.
Wolverines, lynx and bobcats are just some of the other creatures that live in the national park, so coming here on an adventure holiday could allow you to see species up close that you have only ever seen at the zoos back home.
While in Yoho you may also want to spend exploring the Burgess Shale Formation. Regarded as one of the most important fossil finds in the world, this UNESCO World Heritage Site contains the remains of dozens of marine animals, some of which are an astounding 515 million years old.
Bordering Yoho is the Banff National Park. Established in 1883, this is the country's oldest national park - so coming here on a tour will be as historic as it is adventurous!
From bats and shrews to weasels and wolves, this is the perfect place to see a wide range of animals.
With some 260 different species of bird having been spotted in the park over the years, ornithologists will certainly be in their element. Generally, you'll find more birds living in the montane and wetland regions of the park's Bow Valley than anywhere else, with mallards, orange-crowned warblers and the American bittern among the many varieties to live here.
However, wildlife spotting isn't the only activity that you can do here and you should be sure to spend part of your time horse riding and kayaking across Lake Louise. Banff contains more than 190 km of mountain bike trails, making it ideal if you want to take to two wheels and explore.
After a day packed full of seeing beautiful animals and taking part in adventurous activities, you'll be able to have a soak in Banff's thermal hot springs and recharge your batteries.
You can certainly connect with nature by visiting the Jasper National Park. The largest national park in the Canadian Rockies, here you can trek along 1,000 km of hiking trails as well as 300 km of multipurpose paths suitable for biking and horse riding.
Caribou, black and grizzly bears, mountain goats and porcupines all live in the park, so there should be plenty of opportunity to interact with amazing wildlife.
Alternatively, why not visit the Pacific Rim National Park Reserve? Located on Vancouver Island, just off the mainland of western Canada, here you can go on exciting sea lion and whale watching expeditions.
Birdwatchers should keep their eyes peeled, as the bald eagle and great blue heron are two of the many winged creatures that can be spotted soaring in the sky. Of course, there are plenty of amazing animals to see on terra firma, including wolves and cougars.
Cycling, fishing and boating are among the other activities you can take part in here, so there's something to suit every interest.
No matter where you go on an adventure tour of Canada, you can be confident of seeing amazing creatures and having experiences that will stay with you for a lifetime.
