Speakers are announced for the Adventure Travel Show 2012

ActivityAway.co.uk readers will be eager to find out that the speakers for the Adventure Travel Show 2012 have been announced and it features a pretty good mix. The show which will be held at London Olympia this weekend on January 28 and 29 will feature talks from some of the country’s leading explorers, adventurers, wildlife and adventure authors, cameramen, TV presenters and wildlife photographers.

The Accidental Adventurer - Ben Fogle
Adventurer, TV presenter and writer Ben Fogle has raced 160 miles across the Sahara desert, rowed the Atlantic Ocean in 49 days and crossed the Antarctica in a foot race to the South Pole. He has presented numerous TV programmes such as the BBC’s Animal Park, Countryfile, Wild in Africa and Extreme dreams. Ben’s talk will resonate with those who are confused about life and how to live it differently; it will be about defying expectations and conquering shyness.

Broadcaster and Explorer - Nick Crane
Nick Crane has presented over 60 films for the BBC including the Coast series, Great British Journeys and Britannia and Town. Nick believes that adventure starts at home and will be talking about making films and writing books about Britain.

The Apprentice Star and Adventurer - Nick Hewer
Nick is better known as Sir Allan Sugar’s right hand man on the TV series, The Apprentice, however not many know that the 65 year old has driven 12,000 miles from London to Ulaanbaatar as part of the Mongol Rally. Nick will also be talking about his upcoming adventures driving to Freetown, the capital of Sierra Leone.

Marine Biologist and Presenter - Monty Halls
Monty and the BBC film camera crew spent 12 months travelling the length and breadth of the Great Barrier Reef studying animal behaviour and natural events, and Monty will be sharing his experiences at the Adventure Travel Show. The talk will encompass natural history film making, as well as the story of the most famous coral reef on the planet.

BBC’s Frozen Planet Cameraman - Doug Allan
BBC’s recent Frozen Planet series was an instant success and cameraman Doug Allan will be at the show talking about his experiences making this awe-inspiring show. Doug has made over 50 film trips and has won a BAFTA and an Emmy for his work, which included ‘Ocean Giants’ and ‘Human Planet’.

Adventurer, Motorbike Enthusiast and TV Personality - Charley Boorman
Charley Boorman is perhaps best well known for his travels with fellow motorbike enthusiast and friend Ewan McGregor, but has recently branched out on his own, creating his own adventures with the new series ‘Extreme Frontiers’. The series saw Charley travel 10,300 miles across Canada taking intense challenges along the way.

Pioneering Mountaineer – Doug Scott
Doug Scott was recently awarded the Piolet d’Or – or Golden Ice Axe - and best known for being the first British climber to summit Everest. Doug has made more than 40 Himalayan expeditions as well as Big Wall climbs in the Dolomites, Yosemite, Norway and Patagonia, among others. Doug will speak about his Big Wall climbs on Saturday 28 January and his Everest climbs on Sunday 29 January.

Explorer - Benedict Allen
Benedict Allen was the first ‘TV Adventurer’ and has written over ten books about his expeditions. He will be talking about survival challenges in the desert, jungle and Antarctic.

The Fastest Woman Climber - Annabelle Bond 
Annabelle Bond reached the summit of Everest in 2004, and became the fourth British woman ever to stand on top of the world’s tallest mountain. Since her Everest climb, Annabelle went on to scale the highest peaks on each continent of the world in just 360 days. This made her part of an elite group of just 115 people who have ever achieved this feat. Annabelle will be talking about her adventures. 

BBC Zoologist, Conservationist and Wildlife Photographer - Mark Cawardine
Zoologist, BBC Radio 4 presenter, award-winning author of over 50 books, wildlife photographer and travel journalist, Mark Cawardine will be talking to the Adventure Travel Show about his favourite places in the world to watch wildlife, giving us some insider tips on the world’s wildlife hotspots.
