Where are the best cycling routes in Jersey?
Booking Jersey holidays is ideal if you're an activity lover who is a fan of the great outdoors. If you like nothing more than exploring your surroundings by bike, this destination is especially perfect as, because it measures just 9 miles by 5, you can easily cycle round it.
Another benefit is that cycling in Jersey is made incredibly easy due to the network of well-maintained bicycle paths that crisscross the island. For a real treat, journey down one of the Green Lanes, where the speed limit is 15 mph and walkers, cyclists and horse riders are given priority.
These routes will take you through some of the most stunning natural scenery on the island, where you can spend an idyllic few hours pedalling over a multitude of terrains, before finding somewhere pretty to stop and have a picnic lunch.
There are many cycle paths for you to choose from, including one that stretches right around the coast so you can enjoy beautiful sea views at every turn. So, which are the best routes to take when you hire bikes during Jersey short breaks? Here are three that we think particularly stand out.
The first is a trail that will see you exploring the west of the island and which starts off from popular St Aubin. You may wish to spend a little time strolling around the 18th century harbour before you hop on your saddle.
Highlights of this route, which will take you in a circular direction back to St Aubin, include the chance to admire the spectacular beauty of St Ouen's Bay as you cycle down Five Mile Road.
You could also spend time at Le Pinacle, a well-known Neolithic site, or Grosnez Castle, from where you can take in views of Sark and Guernsey.
The second route worthy of your attention will direct you through some beautiful woodland and past attractions including Jersey's rural life museum Hamptonne Farm and the Waterworks Valley.
Ahead of setting off, pop into the Mont Felard Pub in St Lawrence before embarking on your adventure, where you will pass the island's first and second reservoirs. You can treat yourself to a refreshing drink at La Fontaine St Martin or visit Morel Farm, which dates back to the 16th century.
One attraction you may particularly want to take a break from cycling to see is the Jersey War Tunnels - one of the Nazi strongholds during World War II that also served as a hospital for injured German troops.
Our third tip for an unforgettable day on your bike will see you whizz past attractions including Bonne Nuit, Bouley Bay and the Durrell Wildlife Trust.
You will set off from the junction of Trinity Hill and Vallee des Vaux and as you cycle you will pass many attractions where you may wish to take a break from pedalling and explore. Examples include Pallot's Steam Motor and General Museum, the pier at Bonne Nuit and the Eric Young Orchid Foundation - which, if you're a fan of the exotic blooms, you will certainly want to see.
The best thing about taking a cycling tour of Jersey is that you get to see so much of your holiday destination. On a summer's day, there are few things that beat being able to pedal your way around well-maintained paths, losing yourself in breathtaking coastal views as you go.
For laidback holidays that allow you to explore in your own way, there are few better destinations than Jersey.
