Head to Jersey for fishing galore
Looking for a holiday destination that will enable you to indulge in a spot of fishing in a scenic setting? You might want to head to the Channel Islands, as this is one of the most popular Jersey activities you can find here.
The region's favourable climate, diverse landscape and massive tidal range all mean that the island is home to a huge variety of marine life.
There are many different companies in Jersey with which you can sign up for a daytrip out on the ocean. What could be better than landing a sea bass or two on the first day of your holiday and then barbecuing it for your supper?
By chartering a boat and heading out on to the open ocean, you will be taken along to all the best places to catch fish - which you could struggle to find if you choose to go it alone.
However, if you're experienced enough to just take out a boat on your own without the help of a professional fisherman, you might want to do some research into some of the best spots to go to.
These include Gorey Harbour, which is one of the most beautiful places in the British Isles to go fishing.
Local anglers can often be found at the outer wall of the harbour, with most fishing done in darkness or very first light. The rear of the castle of Mont Orgueil is also well known for the bass that can be caught here.
You might prefer to make your way to St Catherine's breakwater, which is one of the most famous shore marks to be found in Jersey.
If you're after some mackerel, head to the very end of the breakwater, or stay near the start if you're keen to hook a few bass. This part of the island is also a great one to go to for night fishing.
Of course, if you're on a family holiday, you may be looking to combine fishing with other activities. Thankfully, there are several fine beaches in Jersey ideal for days out.
You can find more information about these sandy stretches on Jersey.com, but you might also want to make a note of Archirondel, so you can do even more research on this particular beach.
A very popular one, it can be found on the north-east side of the island. It is a great place to go for a picnic in the evening and is wonderful for swimming.
Another quality beach to pay a visit to is Beauport, which is known to be something of a sun trap in the summer. You can find it on the south coast of the island, although you should perhaps think twice about heading here if you have very young children, as there is a bit of a long walk down a steep path from the car park to navigate first.
If you want to combine fishing with a family day out, head to Bonne Nuit, a beach that can be found in the middle of the north side of the island. This is a small fishing harbour but is also a great place for sunbathing and a picnic, although it may not be the best for swimming.
Whatever else you choose to do on your Jersey holiday, you are sure to be pleased with the fishing on offer - so why not start planning your getaway today?
