Each year, the Jersey tourism industry calendar is packed full of exciting events. Indeed, there is always so much going on that you are sure to find something to appeal to you, which could give you the perfect reason to come on a holiday to the Channel Islands.

There are countless special occasions and seasonal attractions held on the island each year so it may take a while to choose your favourite things to do in Jersey. However, read on to find out our pick of the best.

Every year, outdoor enthusiasts flock to the island to take advantage of its unrivalled walking and hiking opportunities. Well-kept footpaths run over a variety of terrain, allowing you to surround yourself with beautiful countryside or take in sea views.

The annual Spring Walking Week in May makes full use of these benefits and if you want to explore your holiday destination on foot, this is the best time to do it.

During the event, a host of walks will be organised so if you feel like taking a guided stroll tailored to your favourite subject, this is the ideal opportunity. You can take a gastronomy tour of the island, building up an appetite on your way to some of the best eateries. Alternatively, you could learn more about its history with a walk that incorporates stops like the War Tunnels.

For an event that really combines all the best natural attractions in Jersey, this is not to be missed.

If you prefer relying on four wheels, rather than two legs, to get around, the Jersey International Motoring Festival is sure to appeal.

Also taking place in May, this is the largest event of its kind in the Channel Islands and attracts everything from vintage automobiles to flash modern motorcycles.

Every motoring club in Jersey takes part and there are plenty of stalls and displays to wander around, while you can also enjoy watching some competitive races.

Of course, as an island Jersey is also incredibly popular with sailing enthusiasts, who may wish to mark the British Hobie Cat National Championships in their diary. The Royal Channel Islands Yacht Club event will be held here for the first time next August.

A host of Open Championship racing events will take place over three days at St Aubin's Bay, while a coastal distance race will be a particular highlight. Indeed, even if you are not a sailor yourself you are sure to love watching the colourful vessels as they breeze past the beaches and harbours.

Music fans, meanwhile, may be keen to plan their visit around Jersey Live at the Royal Jersey Showground in early September.

The festival has seen the likes of Dizzee Rascal, The Prodigy, Kasabian, Snow Patrol and Plan B play over the years and the 2012 line-up is sure to be just as thrilling.

Culinary fans may prefer to schedule their holiday for Tennerfest, which will run for around one month between early October and November next year. This is the perfect time to visit if you're a foodie, as the event offers you the chance to sample sumptuous cuisine and save money.

Across Jersey, participating restaurants create special menus and then make the dishes available at a reasonable fixed price. This gives you a prime opportunity to go on a gourmet adventure, tasting some of the best local dishes on the island.

These are some of our favourite events, but there are many more scheduled for 2012 so whenever you plan to visit Jersey, you are sure to find something going on.
