White water rafting can provide one of the most thrilling adventures, battling with some of nature’s most powerful sources. From rafting among glaciers and fields of icebergs, to high mountain rivers, rainforests and the source of the longest river in the world, here are our picks of the best places for white water rafting.

Tatshenshini River, Alaska and Canada - Plunging through Canada’s great wilderness in one of the most remote locations on the planet, with rivers of spawning salmon, grizzly bears and soaring bald eagles above you, provides a truly unique and amazing rafting experience. Pass ancient glaciers and raft your way among fields of icebergs.

Futaleufú River, Chile - Rafting Chile’s ice blue Futaleufú River is a thrilling experience even for the most advanced rafters, with large stretches of class V rapids. Raft through some of Patagonia’s most spectacular mountain scenery of snow caps and glaciers.

Zambezi River, Zimbabwe - Rafting the Zambezi has been described by some as the wildest white watering rafting in the world. The rapids here are almost all grade V and consist of high volume pool drops. The best rafting season here is between July and February, when the water level is low.

Río Upano, Ecuador - Ecuador’s Río Upano is known as the ‘River of the Sacred Waterfalls’ and rafting here takes you through lush verdant rainforests, deep into the Andes Mountains and onto the headwaters of the Amazon River. Pass gushing waterfalls as you raft through rapids of classes II-IV.

Jinja, Uganda - Raft at the source of one of the most famous and longest rivers in the world - The River Nile, in Africa’s newest adventure sports destination. Raft down the famous Bajagli Falls through class III – V rapids, spotting unique wildlife along the way.

 

Tully River, Australia - Providing some of the best rafting in the whole of Australia and New Zealand combined, the Tully River offers a challenging ride of grades III – IV rapids, through the ancient tropical rainforests around the city of Cairns. Rafting here is suitable for both beginners and more advanced, depending on the different routes you take.

Sun Kosi River, Nepal - Nepal’s mountainous landscape means that it has some of the best white water rafting rivers in the world and Sun Kosi, known as the river of gold, is one of the best. Rising high in the Himalayas, the river winds its way through the stunning Mahabharat Mountain Range. Rapids here are at grades IV-V and are powerful and challenging.
