Have activity-packed skiing holidays in the Pyrenees
If you are keen to go on an action-packed winter sports break, you will find the Pyrenees ticks all the right boxes. The mountain range crosses both France and Spain and while you will discover amazing resorts in each country, active holidays in the latter can prove to be particularly enjoyable.
By taking a Spanish skiing holiday in the Pyrenees not only will you be able to experience fantastic sporting activities during the day, and in the evening you'll get to relax in plush accommodation, but where exactly should you stay?
If you've been browsing skiing holidays in Spain and Andorra for some time but are unsure of where to go, Formigal may well be the ideal place.
With some 137 km of skiable runs for you to tackle, there is plenty of opportunity for experienced and novice winter sport fans alike to put their skills to the test.
Beginners are advised to stick to the green trails - these are specially designed to provide a safe and easy environment for people to pick up basic skiing and snowboarding techniques - although there are also blue and red runs that can offer more of a challenge to those with a greater amount of experience on the slopes.
Should you fancy doing some slightly different activities during your break than these won't be in short supply. Why not go tobogganing or on a sleigh ride pulled by Nordic dogs?
A holiday in Formigal is ideal if you're hoping to fill your days with adventure-packed skiing and snowboarding, but it can also make for an amazing luxury family holiday in Spain.
You'll be staying in a four-star hotel, complete with its own spa, so after an afternoon on the slopes you and your loved ones can enjoy a soak before going out to the village to sample some wonderful authentic Spanish cuisine at one of the numerous restaurants.
However, there is much more to active skiing holidays in the Pyrenees than just Formigal. You'll also find fantastic winter sport opportunities aplenty in Cerler. Situated in the Benasque Valley, close to some of the mountain range's highest peaks, there are 71 km of runs for you to tackle.
Set over 60 pistes, the slopes here are fairly uncrowded, giving you plenty of space to carve your way through the snow.
If you're hoping for a really adventurous break, you'll be glad to know that Cerler is home to the largest skiable descent in the Pyrenees. Running for more than 1,100 m from the top of Gallinero to the bottom of El Molino without a ski lift, tackling this will certainly be a memorable element of your break.
However, if you feel that you're not quite up to this particular challenge there are numerous red and blue runs - in addition to trails that are suitable for beginners - that will prove to be equally enjoyable.
There is also a range of activities created specifically for young children, so you can be sure that this is not only a great resort for exhilarating extreme sports, but is also a family friendly one.
Whether you choose to go to Cerler or Formigal, by making the Pyrenees the destination for your next winter sport holiday you can be confident that you will be able to enjoy first-class skiing facilities and fantastic accommodation.
