Eastern Europe is the cheapest place to ski this January
Ski fans travelling on a budget are advised to stick to Eastern European ski destinations if they wish to enjoy a frugal winter sports holiday this January.
Recent research has revealed that Romania is the cheapest European destination to visit for a skiing holiday. The Figures from trivago.co.uk also suggest that prices have been rising dramatically since December - but on the whole Eastern European destinations are still significantly cheaper than those in the Alps.
Figures show that, this month, Poianna Brasov in Romania is offering overnight stays for an average cost of £79 per night – which is a steep 36% increase from last month. Elsewhere in Eastern Europe prices are also rising dramatically – Polish towns have noted a price rise between 21-22% compared to December 2011, and Bulgaria is up by 20%.
However, these price rises still pale in comparison to the traditional European ski destinations of Germany, Austria, Switzerland and France. To stay in the Swizz ski town Gstaad, travellers would have to fork out a whopping £326, an increase of 39% since December. Meanwhile Austrian ski resorts are up by 44% and French resorts have risen by 47%.
Clearly January and February are excellent months to snow – with snowfall in Austria recently breaking world records. Travellers on a budget may want to refer to our Top Three Thrifty Ski Resorts, for further information on value-for-money ski resorts.
